About Des Champs Technologies
Des Champs Technologies, LLC was founded in 2014 by Dr. Nicholas Des Champs as a pursuit to solve issues commonly associated with condensate removal from HVAC equipment when using standard P-traps.
Prior to his present position, he founded DesChamps Laboratories in 1973, which is involved in the design, engineering, and manufacture of data center cooling equipment, industrial and commercial energy recovery, and dehumidification systems. In April 2007, Des Champs Laboratories was sold to the Munters Corporation, of Stockholm, Sweden.
Dr. Des Champs has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, is a registered professional engineer in Virginia, a Fellow of ASHRAE, a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and serves on various advisory boards for the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech and Virginia Military Institute. Dr. Des Champs serves on the distinguished Committee of 100, a life-long honor, bestowed by the Virginia Tech College of Engineering, and in 2009 he was inducted into the Virginia Tech Academy of Engineering Excellence. His past professional experiences include work with the NASA space program and development of nuclear power supplies for artificial hearts and pacemakers, in addition to thermodynamic cooling techniques for military aircraft, electronic equipment, and re-entry capsules.
He has also been a significant contributor to numerous publications and conferences including the ASHRAE Handbook and the SMACNA publication on ‘Energy Recovery Equipment and Systems’ and the John Wiley Data Center Handbook. He holds over 35patents including 10 patents on rotary and plate-type air-to-air heat exchangers, and 15 on HVAC condensate drain traps. In 1997, the National Entrepreneur Council named Dr. Des Champs “Mid-Atlantic Master Entrepreneur of the Year”.
Today, Des Champs Technologies is a research and development driven company that designs, manufactures, and markets next generation technology, principally for the HVAC industry.
